U23 & Junior athletes battled it out at the second national regatta of the season for international selection, whilst the Masters National Championships were contested over the weekend at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham.
U23 European Champion Kristina Armstrong (Scottish Performance Squad) enjoyed a clean sweep of victories across her U23 events. Kristina took victories in the U23 K1 200m, 1000m and 500m, the latter of which she won her European gold last year.
Kristina also combined strongly with Amy Green (Worcester) in the K2 500m, with the pair winning the final by over three seconds.
Sviatoslav Shnaider (Glasgow) took the win in the U23 C1 1000m Final ahead of George Bell (Fladbury), whilst Bell fought back in the 200m and 500m to win both finals.
Charlotte Fulford (Reading) won the junior women’s K1 200m final, whilst Philippe Ehrnrooth (Devizes) won the junior men’s event.
Gabriel Popham-Coveley (Nottingham) ensured an emphatic win in the K1 1000m final, backing that up elsewhere in the regatta as he also took a K2 1000m win with Xavier Hinves (Southampton).
Hinves was also part of the victorious U23 K4 500m crew alongside Benji Cabrera (Nottingham), Tom Holland (Wey) and Dylan O’Connor (Richmond) who took a clear win in the men’s final, whilst in the women’s final, Grace Anderson (Norwich), Amy Green (Worcester), Elise Montagna (Royal) and Jessie Urquhart (Nottingham) secured top spot.
Annie Bates (Richmond) won the women’s K1 500m junior final, whilst Richmond duo Nelson Kinzler and Dylan O’Connor pipped the U23 K2 500m final ahead of Cabrera and Holland.
Haydyn Cooke-Bayley (Nottingham) was victorious in the U23 K1 200m event, and Freddie Heard (Exeter) and Olivier Mazur (Reading) won the junior K2 500m event. Mazur also secured an individual victory in the junior K1 500m final.
Will Short (Elmbridge) and Alex Worgan (Richmond) sealed a win in the junior K2 1000m final.
In the Master’s racing, Matt Enoch won the men’s K1 1000m & 500m finals, as well as combining with Brett Sirrell to win the K2 1000m final
In the women’s masters, Stefania Rosalba was triumphant in both the K1 1000m & 500m finals, whilst double Paralympic Champion Charlotte Henshaw took part in the Masters K1 200m final, where she claimed an emphatic victory
Gallin Montgomery came through to win the men’s K1 200m final.
In the paracanoe, Xander Van Der Poll and Taylor Gough put in some solid runs in the VL2 and VL1 respectively as they gear towards the European Championships.
