An inspiring weekend of paddlesports, wellbeing, and community connection unfolded earlier this year at the newly relaunched Mersea Water Park, as Paddle UK proudly recognised the venue as its newest #ShePaddles Community Champion.
Running for a third year, the event welcomed around 100 women for a weekend of paddling, relaxation, and shared experiences on and off the water.
Led by #ShePaddles Alumni and Director Rebecca Edwards, Mersea Water Park has undergone a remarkable transformation. Once facing an uncertain future, this former boating lake is now a thriving community hub championing inclusion and female participation in outdoor activity.
Over the weekend, participants took part in a diverse programme of sessions, from paddleboarding and kayaking to yoga, solstice celebrations, and a fun triathlon finale.
The event was supported by an all-female team of instructors and volunteer coaches, many of whom first discovered paddlesports through Rebecca and have since gone on to gain their own qualifications.
The #ShePaddles Weekender offered a safe, supportive, and inspiring space for women to try new activities, build confidence, and connect with others. The positive energy and encouragement shared throughout the event left a lasting impression on both newcomers and experienced paddlers alike.
Today, Mersea Water Park continues to run women-only sessions, family activities, and junior programmes throughout the year – helping to advance a shared mission of making paddlesports more accessible, inclusive, and empowering for all.
