Paddle UK has today announced the appointment of Tom Duggan as performance director for the canoe slalom and kayak cross programme.
Tom has been a member of the Paddle UK Performance Committee over the last two years and he is an experienced high performance leader. He joins Paddle UK from Archery GB where, as PD, he delivered sustained success on the international stage.
Under his leadership, Archery GB met its medal targets at both the Tokyo and Paris Paralympic Games, as well as securing full team qualification for the Paris Olympics.
Tom was appointed following a thorough recruitment process which involved representatives from the canoe slalom and kayak cross programme, UK Sport, the slalom community, as well as stakeholders from across Paddle UK.
On his appointment, he said: “I’m honoured to be joining Paddle UK and the canoe slalom and kayak cross programme at such an exciting time.
“Having been involved in the performance committee for the past couple of years, I’ve seen and admired the success the programme has had and am excited by the huge potential it has.
“I’m looking forward to helping the team build on the foundations of success that have been put in place in the last cycle as we build towards qualification and performance in Los Angeles.”
Keir Worth, Director of Paddlesport at Paddle UK said: “We are delighted to welcome Tom into the role as performance director.
“He has a wealth of experience in performance sport and his passion for developing environments for athletes to flourish was clear throughout the recruitment process.”
Tom will take up his role in early April.
