River Action’s March for Clean Water, which Paddle UK is supporting, will now take place in Central London on Sunday 3 November.
The organisers said it was an “extremely difficult decision” to make, but due to a different demonstration being announced, it was the right one.
A ‘coalition of the concerned’, including campaigner Feargal Sharkey, are demanding the new government takes urgent action to address the issues affecting the UK’s rivers.
The paddling community are invited to join the March for Clean Water to have their voices heard.
River Action and supporters want immediate and decisive action to help our rivers, lakes and seas recover.
River Action’s asks include:
- A plan to address the continuous illegal dumping of raw sewage by the water companies
- A full set of solutions to end all other major sources of water pollution
- The reform of our failed regulatory system, including Ofwat and the Environment Agency, so the law can be effectively enforced against polluters
Paddle UK’s Access and Environment Lead Chantelle Grundy said:
“The march for clean water is an important chance for the paddling community to unite, shoulder to shoulder with others passionate individuals and organisations about protecting our rivers, lakes and seas.
“The new government must take urgent action to deal with the scale of the pollution problem, including wholesale reform of the system to protect both people and nature from the devastating impacts of pollution.”
