Day two of the U23 and Junior Canoe Sprint European Championships saw strong efforts across heats and semi-finals, with several athletes securing spots in upcoming A and B finals
After a great performance in his semi-final, Gabriel Popham-Coveley (Nottingham) has reached the A final in the U23 K1 1000m. Richmond’s Annie Bates also advances to the A final in the Jun K1 1000m after winning her semi-final.
Popham-Coveley will also contest the U23 B final of the 500m, as will Tom Hatton in the Junior event.
In the K4 500m both the U23 Men and Junior Men improved on their results yesterday and have both reached Sunday’s A Finals.
The Junior crew of Tom Hatton, Samuel Dickson, Olivier Mazur and Freddie Heard were third in their semi-final to claim their spot.
Xavier Hinves, Dylan O’Connor, Benji Cabrera and Tom Holland also finished third to book their berth.
Philippe Ehrnrooth (Devizes) placed fourth in his Jun K1 1000m semi-final and moves to the B final.
After placing fifth in the J unK1 500m semi-final, Dianora De Bilio (Royal) progresses to the B final. A fourth in the K1 200m heat also saw her book a semi-final spot.
In the U23 heats, Haydyn Cooke-Bayley (Nottingham) finished sixth and Katie Pocklington (Nottingham) came in seventh, both moving into the K1 200m semi-finals.
Isaac Aveson (Richmond) also qualifies for the men’s K1 200m semi final with a fifth place finish.
Lucy Guest (Nottingham) competed in the women’s K1 1000m and finished sixth which concludes her campaign.
In the U23 men’s C1 200m, George Bell (Fladbury) placed ninth and will not progress further.
