All six C1 paddlers progressed through to the semi-finals stages in this heats this morning, to open up the day two campaign for the Brits at World Cup 5 in La Seu.
On a drizzly day in the mountains, six kayakers took to the 1992 Olympic course in the semifinals but sadly none progressed through to the finals.
In 19th place, Kimberley Woods (Rugby) was the highest finisher in the women’s competition. Touches on gates 9 and 22 meant she finished out of the top 10.
Mallory Franklin (Windsor) was 24th with Edinburgh Schools’ Lois Leaver in 30th place overall.
In the men’s event, Stafford & Stone’s Chris Bowers was 16th overall. HIs touch on gate 12 also proved costly.
Ben Haylett (Holme Pierrepont) and Tees Tiger’s Jake Brown (Tees Tigers) were 29th and 31st respectively.
The C1 heats were the first events of the day and all six Brits have qualified through to the semi-finals tomorrow.
Kimberley was also the fastest of the C1 women this morning, qualifying in first place.
Tokyo 2020 silver medallist, Mallory joins her having finished in 12th place with Ellis Miller (Lee Valley Paddlesports) claiming the last spot in 20th, after a nervous wait.
Ryan Westley was the highest ranking Brit in the men’s C1. He finished in 4th place in the heats.
Olympic silver medallist Adam Burgess (Stafford and Stone) will also race in the semi-final after he finished in 13th place.
After a second run, Kurts Adams Rozentals (Stafford and Stone) made it a full house for Great Britain.
The C1 semi finals will start at 0800 tomorrow.
