Five out of six British athletes have secured a place in the semi-finals in the individual canoe events, on a weather affected day at the Slalom World Cup 4 in Ivrea, Italy.
Earlier in the day high winds saw the canoe heats reduced to one run, with five of the six GB athletes qualifying for Saturday’s semi finals.
The men’s individual event saw Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist, Adam Burgess, make his first start following the Games. Two touches on downstream gates put the Stafford and Stone paddler in 26th place and secured a semi final spot.
Fellow Stafford and Stone paddler Kurts Adam-Rozentals secured qualification taking 24th place. But it was not to be for Ryan Westley (Lower Wharf) who missed out on the top 30.
All three women, Ellis Miller, Kimberley Woods and Mallory Franklin, who won the World Canoe team title last year at Lee Valley, all progressed to the semi finals.
First down the course was Ellis Miller (Lee Valley Paddlesports), who delivered a clean run despite the windy conditions, to secure 26th place.
Kimberley Woods (Rugby) has focused much of the year on the kayak events, but on her return to the canoe she ensured a top 30 finish, despite three touches on gates 9, 13 and 16.
Pick of the athletes in the heats was Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mallory Franklin, who despite catching gate 13 claimed a fine fourth place and a semi-final berth.
Tomorrow will see the individual canoe finals take place in the morning, with the kayak finals rescheduled to the afternoon after being postponed today due to the high winds.
