Britain’s Ottilie Robinson-Shaw won gold in the women’s C1 and K1, while Harry Price took silver in the men’s K1, at the Canoe Freestyle European Championships, in Graz.
In the C1W final, Ottilie Robinson-Shaw dominated the field to become European champion, early on finals day.
Gold medal secured, she recorded 1,283 in run three, more than doubling the best score of silver medalist Zofia Tula, of Poland.
In the last event of the championships, Ottilie, the defending champion, who broke two ICF K1W points records on her way to final, scored a huge 1,446 on her first run.
It was enough to win gold, but in her victory lap Ottilie increased her lead further with a score of 1,566.
Harry Price won a sensational silver in the K1M final. His score of 1,773 was only bettered by Tomasz Czaplicki of Poland.
Toby Marlow, of GB, came eighth, in the same event.
Athletes from across Europe took part in the Canoe Freestyle European Championships, in Graz, Austria, from 27 – 31 August.
The action took pace on the Muglwave feature just outside the city of Graz.
Brits in five finals
First up on finals day was GB’s Matt Stephenson in the C1 men’s competition. His best run was 636.67, but sadly it wasn’t enough to make the medals.
Stephenson, on his birthday, finished fifth behind Eoghan Kelly, from Ireland, Sebastian Nelle, of Germany and the two Frenchmen, Jean-Yves Moustrou and winner Tom Dolle.
In the same competition, Brits Harry Price and James Ibbotson finished in 6th and 10th position.
In the C1W final, won by Ottilie Robinson-Shaw, GB’s Becky Green came fourth, and was just an agonising 20 points from the bronze medal, which was won by Anica Schacher of Germany.
Britain’s Tamsyn McConchie finished the competition in 9th place.
In the K1JM final, James Ward came a very creditable fifth in a high-scoring field.
In the same event, teammates Jamie Rowland came sixth and Timmy Hill came eighth.
Unfortunately, no Brits made the K1JW final. Sophie Macken was GB’s highest placed in the competition in 11th.
