A strong British contingent were in action on day four of the ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Montemor-o-Velho.
Four of the squad were in B final action across the afternoon, with Gabriel Popham-Coveley recording a third-placed finish in the K1 U23 men’s 1000m.
Popham-Coveley, who reached the A final over the same distance at the European Championships earlier this year, clocked 3:50.29 and finished just over three seconds behind the winner, Italy’s Giacomo Rossi.
In the K1 Junior men’s 1000m, Tom Hatton finished fourth in his B final in a time of 3:51.61, 1.55 seconds outside the top three.
Kristina Armstrong was eighth in her K1 U23 women’s 500m race, finishing in 2:05.44, while Dianora De Bilio was ninth in the K1 Junior women’s 500m in 2:06.62.
Earlier in the day, Armstrong made it through to the K1 U23 women’s 200m A final, finishing third in her semi-final in 42.21. She will go for glory at 10.56am on Sunday morning.
Elsewhere in Saturday morning’s K1 semi-finals, Gabriel Popham-Coveley finished fifth in his U23 500m showdown in 1:41.61 and advanced to the B final, while Olivier Mazur will compete in the Junior 500m C Final after he clocked 1:45.26 and finished seventh.

In addition to individual action for Armstrong, Mazur and Popham-Coveley, Sunday’s final day of competition includes British interest in the relays.
Hatton and Annie Bates line up in the K1 Junior Mix Relay at 3.35pm, with Popham-Coveley and Lucy Guest in action in the U23 equivalent just over an hour later.
