One thousand stand up paddle boarders will be gathering in Torbay later this month to participate in a world record attempt at the Great Big Paddle Parade.
The Great Big Paddle Parade is a recreational event with a focus on staying safe on the water, offering courses from 6 km to 20 km to accommodate every skill level from experienced to novice paddlers.
Last year there were approximately 700 paddlers on the water, this year the organisers are hoping to increase this to 1,000 for a new world record.
Participants start from one of three locations and meet on the water to form a large group at Broadsands and then return to the location they set off from.
The annual event is a charity fundraiser for the RNLI, alongside Rowcroft Hospice Care, Above Water and The Shark Trust.
Paddle UK is supporting the event and will be in attendance to provide information about paddling, to raise public safety awareness with a phone pouch giveaway. All participants will receive a Paddle UK T-Shirt.
The Great Big Paddle Parade will take place on Sunday 1 September (postponed from the original date of Saturday 31 August). To participate in the event tickets can be purchased online for £15.
