Paddle UK is getting behind Let’s Get Out There – a new campaign from the Lottery-funded This Girl Can initiative.
The award-winning This Girl Can has been running since 2015 with an ambition to enable women and girls get active in ways that work for them.
Let’s Get Out There has been created with the support of many organisations like Paddle UK who have shared insights, experiences and solutions to help more women get active in green and blue spaces.
This campaign marks the start of a collective effort to challenge the barriers women face and ensure they can experience the benefits of getting active outside.
Sport England’s Active Lives data has shown that women are more likely than men to be missing out on the benefits of getting active in natural environments.
This is due to a wide range of barriers, from difficulty in accessing these spaces, to a lack of experience in what to do or what to expect.
Paddling offers a rewarding way to enjoy nature and stay active and the UK offers diverse and wonderful paddling locations, from canals and rivers to lakes and coastal.
It is a fun, accessible activity that includes canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Each type differs in design, paddle use, and seating.
Beginners can start with a local centre or club for support and learning.
We are putting the spotlight on the South Birmingham Paddle Club who have a fantastic range of sessions this June.
Helpful resources like PaddlePoints can assist you in finding your local paddling spot or you could look up your local AquaPaddle for social group activities.
Paddlers should always follow the #PaddleSafe guide.
