Paddle UK is proud to celebrate its partnership with Active Thames, a dynamic program committed to fostering physical activity across the tidal Thames and inland waterways in London, Kent, and Essex.
By collaborating with community clubs, Active Thames emphasises growth, diversity, and inclusion in blue space activities, aligning perfectly with Paddle UK’s mission to make paddlesports accessible to all.
In 2023, Active Thames awarded £149,420 in grants to 26 projects. These initiatives have reached over 2,300 participants, including young people, individuals with disabilities, and underrepresented groups. Notably, the program has trained and developed 244 coaches, ensuring sustainable growth for water based activities.
Paddle UK’s contributions have been integral to projects like Poplar HARCA’s Women’s Boat Club, which empowered women to achieve Paddle Discover Awards, and Tower Hamlets Canoe Club’s visually impaired paddling programs. These initiatives exemplify how funding and support can create inclusive spaces for physical and mental wellbeing.
By championing initiatives that break down barriers, Paddle UK and Active Thames are inspiring communities to embrace the health, joy, and camaraderie of paddlesports. This partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration in creating vibrant, inclusive blue spaces for everyone.
Active Thames has shared their 2023 Impact Report which outlines the progress made between 2022 and 2023, with an emphasis on the grants awarded to community clubs.
