Philippe Ehrnrooth secured his first international medal as he won silver at the 2024 Olympic Hopes Regatta in Szeged, Hungary.
The Devizes Canoe Club athlete powered to second place in the men’s K1 500m U17 A Final on Saturday.
The 17-year-old fought off Poland’s Oskar Liwandowski and Levente Jancso of Hungary to achieve his first podium finish, with 0.31 separating the trio.
Olympic Hopes is a key development competition for U17 and U16 athletes within the pathway as a 24-strong British team competed in Hungary between 19-22 September.
Ehnrooth was involved in two A Finals across the four-day competition, as he also joined forces with Alex Worgan (Richmond) to finish sixth in the K2M 1000m U17 A Final, posting a time of 3:25.99.
Elsewhere the British team contested a further three A Finals throughout the week, as Sophie Dunlop (Elmbridge) and Francesca Scrivener (Falcon) combined to finish eighth in the women’s K2 1000m U17 A Final, clocking 4:06.43.
Tom Hatton (Richmond) placed eighth in the A Final of men’s K1 500m U16 A Final with a time of 1:48.60.
He also finished eighth in the K2 U16 1000m A Final alongside clubmate Conor Hartney (Richmond), with the duo finishing in 3:34.21.
