Olympic gold medalist Etienne Stott is backing the Climate and Nature Bill as it makes its way through Parliament.
The Bill, which has its second reading on 24 January, is being sponsored by Dr Roz Savage MP, a former rower. She said:
“The Bill aims to put into UK law the key commitments that the UK Government has made under international treaties to restore nature and to address the climate crisis, whilst bringing the public with us on that journey.”
Stott, who won gold in the C2 canoe slalom at London 2012, has been supporting the campaign.
He was at the River Thames to cheer on a team of rowers, including Dr Savage, as they passed the Houses of Parliament in a bid to raise awareness.
“It’s really great here that we’re on the River Thames with the rowers, connected to nature.
“That’s what the Climate and Nature Bill is all about, recognising the contribution and importance of nature, and protecting it forwards for future generations.”
The Bill needs 150 MPs to vote for it at its second reading.
