Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is set to benefit from a significant leap forward in professionalism and safety with the new Occupational Standards for SUP Instructors. This landmark achievement is the result of a collaborative effort between Paddle UK, Surfing England, and BSUPA (British Stand Up Paddle Association).
These newly developed standards aim to bring crucial clarity and confidence to the rapidly growing sport. They will provide assurances to both “deployers” – organisations and individuals who employ or contract SUP instructors – and those seeking SUP qualifications.
Lee Pooley Director of Recreation & Development from Paddle UK said:
“This is about raising the bar for professionalism and ensuring a safer, more consistent experience for all, the standards guarantee that all SUP training and assessment, whether delivered directly by the NGB or an NGB uses existing award structures, will now meet rigorous benchmarks for design, quality assurance, and transparency.”
“The initiative marks a pivotal moment for the paddleboard industry, fostering greater trust and consistency across all aspects of SUP instruction. It underscores a shared commitment from the governing bodies to enhance the quality and safety of Stand Up Paddleboarding experiences.”
