Paddle UK is proud to announce a significant collaborative achievement with Surfing England and the British Stand Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA): the development of new guidance specifically for paddleboard hire providers. This landmark document establishes a robust framework designed to elevate safety standards, ensure quality provision, and safeguard the welfare of all participants in hired paddleboarding activities across the UK.
The rapid growth in popularity of stand-up paddleboarding has brought more people onto the UK’s waterways than ever before. This new guidance addresses the critical need for consistent, high-quality safety management within the hire sector.
“We are incredibly proud of this collaborative effort,”
said Lee Pooley, Director of Recreation and Development at Paddle UK.
“These new guidelines establish a robust framework of principles for the responsible provision of paddleboarding activities. Our core focus is paramount: safety management, quality provision, and the safety and welfare of all participants. This document provides hire providers with a clear framework from which to develop their own operating procedures. By adhering to these principles and expectations, we can collectively ensure that everyone who hires a Paddleboard experiences and enjoys our beautiful waterways safely, equipped with appropriate equipment, sound advice, and essential safety protocols. Together, we’re making the water a safer place for all.”
The guidance covers a range of essential areas, offering clear principles that hire providers can use to develop their own detailed operating procedures. This includes advice on equipment provision, safety briefings, risk assessments, staff competence, and environmental considerations, all aimed at ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience for consumers.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment among the leading paddlesport organisations to proactive safety measures and the sustainable growth of the sport.
