Four British teams have returned in triumph from a highly successful International Rafting Federation Euros in Bulgaria, with 14 golds and six silver medals.
The competition saw athletes from across the continent gathering to test their limits in rafting. With teams competing in various disciplines designed to challenge their speed, strategy, and technical skill, the event promised a thrilling display of athleticism and determination.
Among the contenders were four British teams who arrived ready to prove their mettle on the water.
Teams were composed of four paddlers, representing the categories U23, Open Women, Masters Women, and Masters Men. They participated in four events: Sprint, Head to Head, Slalom, and Down River Endurance.
Although the teams faced challenges due to decreasing water levels and rising temperatures, the British teams enjoyed a successful opening day.
Three of our teams secured gold medals in both the sprint and head-to-head events, while the Masters Men team earned silver.

On Day two, low water levels made the technical slalom more challenging. Only the Bosnian Open Men achieved a clean sweep, while the U23, Open, and Masters Women’s teams secured first place in their categories, with the Masters Men taking silver.
The competition concluded with a down river endurance where long flat sections, boulder gardens and multiple rapids had to be navigated, despite the high temperatures and the tricky terrain the Open Women and Masters Women came first with the U23 and the Masters men both coming in 2nd.
Following a tough week of racing, battling other teams and the heat, our British teams demonstrated their success with the U23, the Open Women, and Masters Women achieving overall gold and the Masters Men awarded silver.
The athletes demonstrated incredible teamwork, resilience, and adaptability throughout the championship, showcasing their prowess in navigating challenging conditions.
Their performance was further highlighted by the camaraderie displayed between team members and their ability to remain composed under pressure.
This unity and determination were essential in securing their remarkable results across all disciplines.
