Fairlop Waters played host to 160 young athletes across the weekend who took to the water as part of the London Youth Games kayaking competition – one of the largest and most inclusive youth sport events in the country.
Representing boroughs from across the capital, paddlers competed in two kayaking disciplines: sprint and slalom.
The sprint races saw athletes power through 50m and 200m distances, while the slalom event tested agility and precision as paddlers navigated a technical course.
For many participants, it was a day of both challenge and celebration, a chance to try something new, compete proudly for their borough, and build confidence on the water.
Bren Amooty, School Sport Lead from Alexandra Park School, shared the impact of the day on their students:
“Our paddlers had an amazing experience and left the venue feeling so proud of their achievements.
“Parents had nothing but praise for the opportunity provided, and appreciation for how understanding and inclusive the event was.”
