Laura Sugar cemented her position as the dominant female KL3 athlete after claiming European Championship glory in the event on the final day of action in Racice.
The 34-year-old was crowned Paralympic and world champion last year and won the continental title in dominant fashion.
It was the golden highlight of a day that also saw Ed Clifton win men’s VL2 silver and Stuart Wood win men’s VL3 silver.
Three more medals on the final day of racing brought Britain’s European Championship medal tally to a total of nine, with four golds, four silver and one bronze after a dazzling week of racing.
Sugar crossed the line in a time of 46.014 seconds, beating Nelia Barbosa of France and Spain’s Maria Jimenez to reclaim her 2022 European title over 200m as Britain’s Lindsay Thorpe took ninth place.
And with over a second and a half gap to her closest competition, Sugar was thrilled to put together a perfect race when it mattered the most.
“I was nice to feel good in a race again,” she said. “I have been trying lots of different things and there are lots of things going on back home so I’m really happy with that. It was the best I’ve felt over 200m.
“I never feel the pressure. I never go to these races expecting to win but I obviously hope to do my best.
“I respect my competitors far too much to think I’m going to win. I think I nailed it today which is why there was a bit of a gap but that will not be the case for other races.”
The first British medal of the day saw Clifton clinch men’s VL2 200m silver in a time of 55.062 seconds.
The 39-year-old came out firing in the early stages of the race before Portugal’s Norberto Mourao came back to win gold.
It marked Clifton’s first-ever international medal after switching to paracanoe in 2021, but the athlete admitted that there is still more to do.
“I’m really pleased and happy with a silver,” he said. “There’s still a little bit more to work on in the back end.
“I’ll just be working on my lactate tolerance to get that up before Milan and stop messing around.”
Xandar van der Poll was sadly disqualified in the men’s VL2 final for having the ama (stabilising float) out of the lane for two consecutive buoys.
Wood returned to the podium with a brilliant silver in the men’s VL3 200m.
He crossed the line in a time of 48.696 seconds behind world and defending European champion Vladyslav Yepifanov of Ukraine.
Spain’s Adrian Mosquera took bronze in a photo finish with Britain’s Jack Eyres, who narrowly missed out on a medal in fourth.
Wood won bronze in this event at last year’s European Championships, but upgraded to silver this time round after a quick start on the water.
“It was a tough race there, especially at the end but I’m glad to come away with second,” he said.
“It has always been a case of going out at the front and trying to hold on for me.
“I feel fully back into things now and I’m excited to carry on racing.”
Elsewhere, Bethany Gill finished eighth in the women’s C1 500m final and sixth in the 5000m while Emma Russell closed her K1 campaign with ninth place in the 500m final and 11th in the 5000m.
On the final day of action in Racice, it was also confirmed that Charlotte Henshaw, who won the KL2 title on Saturday, has been elected to the ECA Athlete Commission after receiving an incredible 53 votes out of 60.
