Paddle UK is saddened to have learnt of the passing of Geoff Dinsdale.
Geoff, A member of Chalfont Park Canoe Club, represented Great Britain in canoe slalom at international level throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
Starting as a K1 paddler, Geoff was National Champion and won a team bronze at the 1963 World Championships in Spittal, Austria.
He then made the switch to C1, where we went on to represent Great Britain at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.
After retiring from international competition, Geoff dedicated a lot of his time to coaching club members at Chalfont Park, as well as sharing advice with other GB international paddlers over the years.
More recently, he attended the Olympic reunion event at Lee Valley White Water Centre, taking on the course with good friend Mike Hillyard in a 1970s C2.
Chalfont Park Canoe Club, said:
“We have been deeply saddened by the passing of club member Geoff Dinsdale earlier this week.
“Geoff was a National Champion and a leading international competitor in the 60s and 70s winning medals and also representing GB at the the 1972 Munich Olympics in the C1 class.
“He advised and coached many club members and other GB team paddlers over the years freely giving his time and advice.
“Geoff had many sporting interests other than paddling and often travelled to Alpine areas in Europe and Nepal in search of adventure. We will miss him.”
