The Mayor of the East Midlands was given a tour of the facilities at Holme Pierrepont during the final National Sprint Regatta of the season this weekend.
Claire Ward met Paddle UK’s chief executive Ashley Metcalfe, and chair Nick Donald, along with athletes Stuart Wood and Lindsay Thorpe, on 6 September, to discuss the importance of the venue to the region and the sport.
Councillor Roger Upton, from Rushcliffe Borough Council, also visited the National Water Sports Centre.
Mr Upton also met with Ashley Metcalfe, Nick Donald, as well as sprint athletes Emily Lewis, and Deborah Kerr, paracanoeist Jon Tarrant and performance director Ekaitz Saies.
Ashley said: “We were delighted to host both the Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward and Councillor Roger Upton at the national regatta.
“The facilities at the National Water Sports Centre are integral to the ongoing success and development of canoe sprint and paracanoe, and it was fantastic to share the event with them to enjoy watching the racing with competitors of all ages and abilities from the all over the country come together”.
