Britain won a further two silver medals to continue their early success at the junior and U23 wildwater European Championships in Dallenwil, Switzerland.
The double silver brings their current medal haul to five after three accolades in the individual events yesterday.
Thursday brought the classic team events to the Switzerland waters, with nine crews looking to make their mark on day two of the competition.
After their individual success in the U23 K1 and C2, sisters Kerry and Emma Christie joined up with Lucy Guest to produce another impressive result with silver in the U23 K1 women’s event.
With Kerry leading the way, the team were paddling great down the course and were fastest at the split.
The trio, who have been training together at Nottingham Kayak Club ahead of this event, showed they’d done the hard work as they dug deep in the latter stages to cross the line in a pleasing 15:00.435.
Knowing they had a medal secured, they had to wait for the Czechia team to conclude to see where they’d stand on the podium.
Six seconds separated the pair as the Brits finished in a fantastic silver position.
Really pleased with the result, Christie (Kerry) said:
“It was a very good run from the three of us. I was out at the front and set the pace. I kept checking to see we were all close together.
Guest added: “It was great. It was hard at times.
“I did let the gaps get a bit too big at times but I just powered all the way through in the end. I had the confidence I could pull it back when I needed to.”
Kerry was back on course for the final event of the day, as she went on to combine with Emily McLean and Molly Sandercock in the U23 women’s C1 team final.
And it was further success for the U23 World Champion, as she won her fourth medal of the European Championships so far, with the team securing a brilliant silver medal a first for MacLean and Sandercock this week.
Well up on the Spain crew in front, the pair crossed the line in 19:02.492, only bettered by an impressive run from the Czechia trio.
There were a couple of near misses from the podium, with a further four trios placing fourth and incredibly close to adding to the British medal haul.
In the junior men’s K1, Huw Singleton joined forces with brother Will and Sam Stevely to produce an impressive effort in their teams final.
Posting 14:27.908, just a second separated them from a podium place.
Winning silver in the C2 yesterday Ciara Maloney teamed up with Iona Patrick and Freya Pryce in the junior K1 women’s event.
They put in a great display to clock 15:54.535, and were two and a half seconds off the bronze medal and making over three seconds up in the back end of the course.
The U23 C2 men’s trio were also just shy of the bronze.
Leon Tomlinson & Ed Butler, Ryan Mallon & Eddie Mackintosh and Oliver Stegeman & Regan Toop all finished their efforts in 17:25.639, which sadly saw them just outside of the medals.
Toop and Stegeman were up twice as they took on the C1 men’s junior teams alongside Callum McDonald. Clocking 19:16,459, they also finished fourth overall.
McDonald jumped up to the U23 C1 men’s teams as he raced again with Stevely (Will) and Mallon also taking on their second effort.
It was a fifth place finish for the trio as they posted 17:13.999.
The men’s K1 team which featured Tomlinson, Butler and Mackintosh saw them cross the line in 14:28.520 and they came ninth overall.
